NYC and Making the Most of a Lost Booking

They were right.  Everyone who commented on this blog post and everyone who commented on Facebook.  They said something amazing would come of that day I didn’t book that wedding.  And that amazingness happened to be a last minute trip to NYC with Megan – a photographer and dear friend of mine.  I greeted her in the bus line at Union Station as she handed me a Starbucks caramel latte to indulge in (a rare treat for me these days during pregnancy, where I’ve given up coffee).  We spent the ride up talking about anything and everything, often interjected by commentary on the S-L-O-W-E-S-T bus driver on earth.  As we crept along major highways and interstates, being passed by tractor trailers, loaded cement trucks, and I’m pretty sure even a man on a unicycle, a large number of us chanted for the driver to go faster.  As in, AT LEAST THE SPEED LIMIT.

After somehow managing to arrive on schedule, Megan and I were ready to enjoy the city, and that meant good food and shopping.  And more good food.  And more shopping.  We tackled the subway together (which I admit I’m pretty proud of), and enjoyed an easy pace throughout the day.  The great thing about traveling with another photographer is that they never question when you stop in the middle of a highly trafficked street, or walk up, face, and crouch 2 feet in front of an NYC cab at a red light just to get THE photo.  *ahem*Megan*ahem*  We’re visual people.  (And let’s face it – we need Instagram fodder.)

I loved hanging out in the city with no agenda, and I’m glad we got to see NYC two days before Hurricane Sandy hit.  And as dusk began to set on our day, Megan managed to take a photo of me that I actually like.  So here’s proof that my son is already starting to travel the world (okay, at least other parts of the US)…

And because randomness like Dotan Negrin can only happen on a busy street corner in NYC…

Because Megan found the front stoop to her new dream home in the city (and because I already have a toiletries bag packed and ready to keep at her place for when I visit)…

And because Canon’s 5D Mk III rocks at 900,000 ISO (okay, maybe 4000, f/1.2, 1/50 sec)…

Here’s to embracing life!
