The Proof Is in the Eggs

Several months ago our conversation went something like this:

Chris: When can we go back to non-organic eggs?
Me: Next time you go to the grocery store.
Chris: Why are you buying organic eggs anyway?
Me: Because the chickens are cage-free.
Chris: Who cares?  They were put on this earth for us to eat.
Me: But they weren’t put here for us to torture.
Chris: Humans are tortured around the world every day.
Me:  But we aren’t eating them.
Chris: […pause…]  Good point.

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been emotional.  As in, cry at those Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercials emotional.  My super-sensitivity has gotten the best of me, and if you know me, you know just how uncharacteristic that is of me.  Pregnancy hormones have been at bay until now.  For some reason they decided to surface in my 3rd trimester.  I still can’t tell if my OhSweetJesus I’m having a baby in 2 months overwhelming moment a week ago is from those hormones or the reality that there’s so much left to do before baby arrives.

This past Sunday morning as Chris and I started our day, he offered to run to the grocery store for eggs if I wanted some for breakfast.  And in my hormonal funk state I was all, “I don’t care.  If you want to.”  Instead of responding, he gave that little smirk of his, and off to the store he went.  When he returned he offered to make me breakfast, and in my funk I was still, “No.  Don’t worry about it.  I’ll make my own.”  And when he pulled the egg carton from the grocery bag, that’s when I knew he loved me.  Organic eggs from free-range chickens, enriched with Omega-3 and Vitamin D.  And he smiled.  And I couldn’t help but love him more.

So today I am thankful.  For my loving and thoughtful husband.  For our BABY BOY due in January.  For the love and support of our family and friends.  And for organic eggs.  And free-range chickens.

And because a post is always better with a photo, here’s a pic of a cutie pie I had fun photographing a couple days ago!

Happy Thanksgiving!  May you find much to be thankful for!
